Resturant Report: Wooboi Hot Chicken

We visited Wooboi Hot Chicken’s grand opening and all we can say is wooo boy; this is good!

Located in North Old Town, Wooboi Hot Chicken opened its doors for their grand opening to the Alexandria community on November 2nd. Visiting and taking our meal to-go, we had quick service and delicious smells on our way back to the office. Yum!

Our team dove into the Wooboi savory waffle fries dipped in the special comeback sauce that came with our meals. Delicious. We finished the box of fries in minutes! Wooboi’s fan favorite and classic chicken sandwich “The Sando” comes with ciderslaw, butter pickles, and the comeback sauce on a potato bun. We also ordered the “Chx Sammy” that comes with cheese on top. With six levels of heat to choose from (including a no heat option), we decided to go with just a little kick of spice at levels one and two. Truly, Wooboi’s “power levels” of heat are not for the faint of heart. Those brave enough to try their hottest at Code Red or Code Blue heat levels can join others who have survived the heat by signing their name on the “Waiver Form” wall that acknowledges the crazy spice levels packed into red or blue level chicken. Our eyes watered, but it was amazing. With hot chicken spilling over their soft and toasty potato bun topped with cheese or slaw, these chicken sandwiches are worth a visit.

What can you expect? Great prices for quality chicken sandwiches. $8.99 for the main dishes, including the Sando, Clubhouse, Tenders Basket, or Chx Sammy. All sides are $4.50 including tax. Wooboi receives daily deliveries of produce in order to ensure the best quality for their fried chicken sandwiches.

“From the free range chickens to our fresh hand sliced tomatoes, we handpick all of our ingredients all in the name for our mission. That mission is to make the best fried chicken! Every day we are happy to say we are getting closer to our goal,” says Wooboi Chicken owner Michael Choi. Choi was inspired by his team and family at his original Herndon location and wanted to help grow their careers and grow the Wooboi family.

Insider tip: Wooboi has seven secret menu items… which are written somewhere in the restaurant. Wooboi Hot Chicken’s new Old Town location is located at 531 Montgomery Street, Alexandria, VA. You can also find their original location in Herndon at 139 Spring Street. The Gables Old Town North location is open 11am – 9pm Monday through Friday and 11am – 4pm on Saturdays. According to Wooboi’s social media, online ordering starts on December 7th.
