Welcome to Alexandria, Josephine! The newest spot in Old Town has found its home in the old Columbia Firehouse location, found right off King Street at 109 S St Asaph Street. As someone who conveniently lives and works only a few blocks from this restaurant, it was only a matter of time before I found myself sipping a cocktail at their bar with my girlfriends!
The moment we stepped inside Josephine Brasserie & Bar, I loved the cozy ambiance that effortlessly blends rustic charm and contemporary style. What sets Josephine's apart is its beautifully delicious menu full of flavors that chef Matt Cockrell and his team have mastered. The menu combines classic dishes that include a broad range of salads, appetizers, and entrees, along with an extensive raw bar and a wide selection of champagne, wines, cocktails, and craft ales. It's the perfect venue for intimate gatherings or special celebrations, as each level of the building offers a different ambiance. From the dark and moody bar and private 21+ parlor to the light-filled side room and outdoor patio, the varying areas and experiences will make Josephine's a go-to choice to visit with guests and family.
We loved the French decoration and music that set the mood for a night of desserts, champagne, and Parisian eats. The wine selection was impressive, and after looking over all the appetizers, it felt impossible to narrow it down! After the recommendation from a friend, I ended up ordering the Burger Josephine and loved it! The double patties were cooked to perfection, topped with bacon & onion jam, havarti cheese, pickled red onions, and a delicious olive oil bun with a little French flag on top. We closed the night with a bit of champagne as we enjoyed their desserts, too. Next time I visit, I'll hope to sit up at the bar or out on the patio to try a few more of their french inspired hors d'oeuvres! Want to visit Josephine’s for yourself?
