Inside the Legendary Cecil B. DeMille Estate: The $29.85 Million Los Angeles Property Linked to Madonna and Angelina Jolie
A storied piece of Hollywood history has entered a new chapter. Angelina Jolie has sold her historic Los Angeles estate for $24.75 million, bringing a new owner to a remarkable property once belonging to legendary filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille. Listed for $29.85 million, the estate was represented by Ernie Carswell of Sotheby’s International Realty’s Beverly Hills Brokerage alongside Jon Grauman of Resident Group.
Located at 2000 De Mille Drive in Los Angeles’ exclusive Laughlin Park neighborhood, the property carries a legacy that spans generations of Hollywood history. DeMille, widely regarded as one of the founding figures of the American film industry, acquired the residence in 1916 and lived there until his death in 1959. His influence helped shape Hollywood into the entertainment capital of the world, making the estate a distinctive part of the city’s cinematic heritage.
Jolie purchased the property in 2017 for $24.5 million and made it her primary residence for several years. Set on nearly two acres at the highest point of the gated neighborhood, the estate offers exceptional privacy, mature landscaping, rose gardens, and sweeping views of the Hollywood Hills and Griffith Observatory, extending toward the ocean and Los Angeles skyline.
The approximately 11,000-square-foot main residence features six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, complemented by a private gym, library, and wine cellar. The grounds extend well beyond the main house, with a guest house, swimming pool and pool house, tea house, hidden treehouse, and a separate garage with a security station.
Among the home’s most distinctive spaces is its library, which Jolie highlighted in a 2021 British Vogue feature. Reflecting on the property, she expressed an appreciation for its many pathways and quiet places to think, offering a glimpse into the thoughtful character of a residence steeped in history.
The estate drew additional attention following reports that Madonna had expressed interest in the property. While speculation linked the pop icon to the purchase, Jolie’s listing agent subsequently denied that Madonna was the buyer, and the purchaser’s identity has not been publicly confirmed.
With its storied ownership, expansive grounds, and enduring connection to Hollywood’s golden age, the Cecil B. DeMille estate stands apart as more than a luxury residence. Its sale marks another chapter in the history of one of Los Angeles’ most recognizable historic properties, connecting the legacy of an influential filmmaker with the modern era of celebrity real estate.
